Historical Site
Elgin is a suburban city in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. It's dubbed the 'City in the Suburbs' due to its large population and metropolitan style downtown. Elgin welcomed its South Asian Muslim community members with open arms since the arrival of the Khan family in 1969. Since then, Elgin hosts three Islamic sites: Islamic Community Center, Institute of Islamic Education Mosque, and Institute of Islamic Education Seminary. Images are available by the Illinois Public Archives and the Elgin Historical Society.
